The definition of a word...
Sep. 26th, 2006 08:59 amSo, I took a rather nasty (could have been much, much nastier) spill down the stairs last night. Wrenched my knee and ankle quite well. After a half hour, ankle was slightly swollen, but no bruising so I figured, ice, elevate and check in the morning. Well, this morning the knee actually hurts worse and though it could be just stiffening up from overnight, I'd rather have it checked out.
So I decide I should hit an urgent care clinic since my primary care physician (pcp) is affiliated with a large medical group that includes those. I got the the website to find the closest and they say it's best to have an appointment. OK...so I call. They ask who my urgent care physician is. Um, wha? The whole point of urgent care is it's like emergency-lite, right? So, unless I'm truly, truly accident prone and always in and out of there, why would I have an urgent care physician?
So I say I don't have one, but rather a pcp at another office. Oops! Shouldn't have said that. They tell me I need to see my pcp first. So I call her office. Unsurprisingly, she's booked for the day. I can see another physician at 12:45. Um....do they have anything sooner or, you know, could I just get referred to the urgent care people cause, you know...urgent. How about a 10:15 with a physician's assistant? You know what...whatever...just somebody with medical training telling me what I need to do to make my leg stop hurting and whether or not I need a brace.
Still...let's review...
urgent: (adjective) calling for immediate attention.
*Sigh*
