Well, it's official. My broadcast class has turned me into a documentary snob. Went to see one tonight for the opening ceremony of a conference this weekend (and yes I realize how pathetic it was that that was my Firday night).

The film was on the underwater aquifers in Florida. They actually scuba'd from one upwelling to another, ten miles underground through cave systems. It was an amazing opportunity. They had great footage, a great message to impart and they completely fumbled it.

I have never watched a more painfully scripted thing in my life. It was just executed so badly it's ridiculous. It wouldn't have been so bad if they didn't have such amazing raw material to work with.

Like I said...officially a snob.

Snobbery is a great thing. You soon learn you can apply it to so many of your interests, thus making each one that much deeper and more fun.

Hear hear! What is wrong with people who tell me to just, "Sit back and enjoy" something? Don't they understand the divine pleasure in being a nitpicky bastard?

hehhee .. I can relate. I hate that I watch TV or a movie and think "dude, I wonder how many takes it took to get THAT on camera?" or "I know how to do that!" .... rarely does anything come up that I can't say I have a pretty educated guess as to how they did it. ;)

Pete says it's cute but sometimes annoying .... but now I've got him trained to see problems at 1/30the of a second! ;)

I find it really annoying when a movie hits a lull and my brain suddenly switches from audience to editor and I start thinking how they did things and why and what I would do instead. But then the plot will kick in again and the switch will flip back.

With this the whole thing was just painful.
