You know, if I didnt need to pay of my student loans, get married, pay for shots for the cats, or a variety of other expensive and time consuming things - I might invest.
But as I am poor, and have a car... I think I'll skip it.
of course. we spend hundreds of dollars on a machine that will think for us while at the same time makes writing and communicating easier. we spend tens of dollars for tickets to see people play football for us. we spend thousands of dollars on a machine that will travel for us. we spend several dollars on a ticket for a movie that will entertain us.
hardly anyone entertains themself. hardly anyone does anything for themself! when was the last time you knit your own clothes? grown/hunted your own food? traveled to work without mechanical assistance?
with technology becomes ease. with ease becomes laziness. with laziness becomes dependence.
i think we would agree that technology is not the problem, but that we should be mindful of the dangers of laziness and dependence.
The computer makes communications faster, solves harder problems, etc. Entertainment comes in many forms, it doesn't make one lazy. Playing softball and reading a book are just as entertaining. Am I lazy if I choose one over the other because one is active and one is not? Cars travel faster than we can as do trains, planes etc.
I crocheted my scarf that I wear, we have a vegetable garden, and if my work was in my same town I might bike. I don't generally make my own clothes because someone can do it better and it saves time to buy it. I don't grow/kill all my food because somebody can do it better and it saves time to buy it. I drive my car to work becasue it saves time.
This machine travles no faster than a human could, and thus saves no time. The max speed is 12.5mph and it can only sustain that for 5 miles on average. It is not recommended for medical purposes so it's not going to improve life for people who have trouble walking/running.
It doesn't add anything new to the mix, just removes walking/running. This is a new level of laziness.
of course, i could buy like 3 mopeds at the price of one of these. otherwise, i'd say that if my destination was 5 miles away, using one of these puppies at 12.5mph would be a lot better than pounding the pavement.
but yeah, you're right. it doesn't ultimately add anything to the meow mix. it might be something that rich people might sport around to show their wealth, but that's about it.
