taerowynSo I bought the new Lord of the Rings DVD on the way home from work. It's the first DVD I've owned! Thirty minutes of extra footage people. Go! Buy it now!!
I was very happy with what they added. I think my friend put it best, the theatrical release was probably the better movie, but for fans of the book, the extended version of the film was a better translation.
I was glad that they extended the gift-giving scene so that you saw everybody's gifts from Lothlorien and not just what Frodo received. Although they did still skip the box of dirt for Sam. Details.
I noticed that a lot of the scenes that were cut were ones that had a light-hearted air to them. Yes there were some fight scenes/dramatic scenes cut, but if I think back, most of the scenes were the hobbits celebrating or just being hobbits, singing scenes and joke scenes and things like that. The theatrical version was much darker without them, but I think it worked either way.
Um, that's really all I can remember for now. I stayed up a wee bit late to watch it so my brain is a little sleep-fogged.
I only watched the movie though. I think I'll save all the special features (and there's a lot of special features) for the next time I'm sick and laid out on the couch. Possible information overload.
