So the cap to my day, which, as I said, was unpleasant, was at Kinkoes. I was standing in line and the guy ahead of me turns around to chat while the clerk does his copies.

"So you play the guitar or just like it..." (Refering to a pendant I had on)
"Actually it's a mandolin, and no I don't play."
"Ah, the mandolin...Italian."
"I actually don't know."
"Oh, it's Italian...Rome...Romans [Yes, he did pause this much] Gotta watch out for the Romans. Can't bend down around them...them and the Greeks. They like men...I mean they like men like you're supposed to like women....Gotta be careful bending down around them. That kind of thing makes a man uncomfortable...The Greeks and the Romans, man....Imagine being a young Greek boy...caught in one of those bathhouses with some old, smelly, sweaty..."

"OK, that is ENOUGH!"

He just chuckled as if I couldn't have possibly been offended. Thankfully, right then another clerk finished up so I could get my stuff taken care of and get the hell out of there.

I was just appalled. I can't imagine that being a conversation you have with someone you know much less a perfect stranger. Definitely freaked me out.

At the "I mean they like men like you're supposed to like women," I was tempted to say, "Well, I do like women that way so that's ok." But somehow, I don't think even that would have shut him up.

That truly sounds like a Kinko's customer. After working there for four years that story is timid compared to many of the things that I have been witness to in a Kinko's.

I'd have to agree with you. As a former "Kinkoid" - I witnessed close to four years of the most bizzare behavior imaginable.

Word of advice to those seeking work with Mr. Kinko - you gotta have a strong stomach for third shift.
