Apr. 5th, 2008 03:00 pmSaw In Bruges last night. Jury's still out on whether I liked it or not. Bit slow to start, but when it picked up I was enjoying it. Kind of reminded me of The Matador in that it was a comcial look at a fairly dark world/side of human nature. Though, admittedly, it always a little darker and a little less of the outright comedy of The Matador, but I was OK with that...until the climax...and then the comedy was way turned down and the darkness violence was cranked...and I'm not sure how I feel about it.
However, what the movie does do phenomenally well is highlight the city of Bruges (it's a fairy tale city, don't you know? Course that will only make sense if you've seen the movie). The city is practically a co-star. For some place I'd never really heard of before seeing trailers for this movie, it's now on my list of "get there one day" places.
