Dec. 5th, 2007 09:40 pmSo for some reason that I currently can't bring to mind, I recently joined a gym. Basically, I just want to go in several times a week, hop on an elliptical or the like, read a book and burn some calories. I sit at a desk all day...it makes sense to do something like this.
However, when you join, you get one free session with a personal trainer. A personal trainer who doesn't care if you want to just come in several times a week, hop on an elliptical or the like, read a book and burn some calories. A personal trainer who wants to know your goals...your support network...your plan (and no, apparently coming in several times a week, hopping on an elliptical or the like, reading a book and burning some calories does not constitute a "plan").
The next step is to use several devices and calculations to first quantify how totally out of shape you are. Then, they take you through a full body workout to really, really show you how out of shape you are.
Then they sit you down and offer to do it again, three days a week for the next 3 months for hundreds of dollars.
Yeah...I'll be back in the gym in a few days (once the soreness goes away) and guess what? I'm gonna hop on an elliptical or the like, read a book and burn some calories.
Also? Ouch!
