OK...last time, did I or did I not tell you people to remind me not to go so long between entries. So much to type...

Week 20 - 23

Nada...mainly because...

Week 24
22. Figments of Reality: The Evolution of the Curious Mind by Ian Stewart and Jack Cohen: A very dense (hence the long read time) but very interesting book on neuroscience. The kind of book where you have to read a bit, put it down and process, read a bit... Highly recommended, both entertaining AND educational. And hell, it's a science book with a liner quote from Terry Pratchett...where can you go wrong?

Week 25
23. The Writing Life by Annie Dillard: I like Pilgrim at Tinker Creek more, but this is still good Dillard with the added bonus that it makes me appreciate having chosen editing over writing all the more.

24. Braindroppings by George Carlin: Basically mental mouthwash after lingering over Figments for so long. Like all Carlin...good for a laugh.

Week 26
25. Finding Serenity: Anti-Heroes, Lost Shepherds and Space Hookers in Joss Whedon's Firefly edited by Glenn Yeffeth and Jane Espenson: Proof that yes, I am that big of a geek. I probably would have let this one by as I have all Whedon-based books if it didn't have pieces by Mercedes Lackey and Larry Dixon. Much as I've moved away from their actual work, there's still a part of me that remembers and loves...so mix it with Whedon and I had to check it out. Some interesting stuff, some stuff that makes me watch the series from a different mindset and some absolute dreck.

Week 27

Week 28

26. Field Notes from a Catastrophe by Elizabeth Kolbert: Got a review copy at work despite the fact that we don't, you know, DO reviews. Still read it though. Just a s depressing as one would imagine. Please let this Congress be more realistic about the dangers we face and the science that's been telling us so for decades...

Week 29

Week 30

27. The Globe: Science of Discworld II by Terry Pratchett, Ian Stewart and Jack Cohen: Probably best not read so soon after Figments considering how much info Stewart and Cohen rehashed, but still a fun Discworld romp with lots of interesting science.

Week 31
28. Fugitives and Refugees: A Walk in Portland, Oregon by Chuck Palahniuk: I'm not the biggest fan of his fiction, but I love his non-fiction and this is a great little collection of vignettes into a city.

29. Elements of Style by Strunk and White: You know it...the little book. Just had the urge for a refresher. Should probably make it a tearly re-read, it's not like it takes much time to get through.

Week 32

Week 33

30. Stranger Than Fiction: True Stories by Chuck Palahniuk: Again...like his non-fiction better so really enjoyed this. And I loved the organization of the book as well. Just a good read that offers a look into the minds of many and the mind of one.

Week 34
31. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig: SOmetimes the old familiar books are best. Had recently recommended it to a friend and his gushing response upon finishing it made me want to go back and read it again...so I did.

Week 35
32. Moonspinners by Mary Stewart: I knew the movie of course (Hayley Mills...hee!) but didn't know it was based on a book until I stumbled across this at a library sale last year. Finally got around to reading it. As always, the book is better...(at least "as always" when the book is the source material and not a novelization of a movie.

And yes, I know it's week 47, but I'm tired of typing...I'll get caught the rest of the way up later.

Thanks! That's me in an airport. Friend snapped the picture and I always joked it was me in my "natural state." Figured it was a good iconable (it's a word if I say it's a word) pic.
