Figured I should share this with mezdeathhead and those others of you who go in for the tatoos...whatcha think?

As tattoos have grown in popularity, so have complaints of adverse side effects associated with both their application and removal. A new study, done by chemistry students at Northern Arizona University, looked at the chemical composition of a variety of tattoo inks to better understand their potential health risks. The findings, presented today at the 229th national meeting of the American Chemical Society, the world's largest scientific society, suggest that closer regulation of the tattoo industry may be warranted, according to the researchers.

you know, i knew about quite a bit of that. there are, in fact, plenty of tattoo ink companies that still aren't regulated at all by even the FDA. we only get our inks from the ones that have been and are routinely monitered. unfortunately, as with everything else, there are plenty of penny pinchers out there that choose the cheapest inks available.... and guess what. those are not monitered, and could be composed of just about anything under the sun.

i must admit a little surprise to learn that there are still traces of metals in any tattoo inks, seeing as that's one of the most common allergies out there. i really wish that it would have mentioned which brands had what. i'm really curious now.
