Want to know the karmic reward for driving a visiting friend the half hour to her interview instead of having her make the two hour public transit trip? Spending said interview in a bookstore. Yay! for new books. Well, in one case, new-old.

Of course I only went in looking for one (the new-old) and came out with five:

Howl's Moving Castle (the new-old). Read it years ago and wanted to read it again cause, hello, movie!

Found out there was a sequel, hence book two.

Was looking at the new fiction and there was a new Carl Hiassen on sale with one of the main characters a marine biologist. Book three.

Looking through the bargain books and found a really great chicken cookbook. I don't eat beef or pork so two thirds of most cookbooks are useless to me and this one had some really great recipes. Book four.

Then, after browsing, I went to sit and read. But instead of cracking open a book I was already planning on buying, I grabbed one that I'd seen on the shelves at several past visits to bookstores and wondered about...Thinner Than Thou, which is a sci-fi look at the not to distant future where body image becomes cultish to the point that it is basically the national religion. Lots of the snippet quotes on back are along the lines of "creepy and frighteningly believable as a possible future. Got hooked within a few pages, hence book five.
