Feb. 25th, 2005 07:20 pmSo, BoyRoommate and I decided that we should capitalize on this whole jobless purgatory thing and take a little roadtrip down to NYC to see The Gates.
I'll admit, I'm not the biggest Christo fan. Saw a documentary on him my senior year of college. I liked some of the work, though I've always thought the whole wrapping thing is stupid, but wasn't impressed with the guy himself. Probably had something to do with his totally ignoring park rangers and going ahead and building his Running Fence down into the ocean. Yeah it looked pretty, but marine biologist me wasn't impressed with his "Screw nature, this is art!" attitude. So I was a little "eh" about the whole Gates thing. However, I was definitely swayed. I can't pinpoint what it was exactly...the sheer number of gates, the scop of the project, the sound of the fabric in the wind, the visual appeal of the repetition, the brilliance of the color. Don't know, but it was definitely a site to behold. Pictures, of course, don't do it justice (and I'm sure you've seen tons all over the news) but here are mine (Click the pic to see others).
