I did get up early to see the Leonids. What can I say, I'm a nerd. And now, I'm a tired nerd.
One of the many joys of living at home is that my dad checked at 3:00, too much cloud cover, 3:30, too much cloud cover, 4:00, too much cloud cover and then woke me up at 4:30. There were still some clouds, but you could still see them. That way I got to see them and I only had to wake up once. Cause hell, if it'd been me alone and at 3:30 (the peak time) it was too cloudy I would have just rolled over and gone back to bed. But instead I actually got to see it.
Like I said, there was cloud cover, but it wasn't complete so you could see the very bright ones. I probably saw about ten in the fifteen minutes my dad and I were out there. The leonids and persieds and all the other neat astronomical phenomenon will always remind me of my dad. He's just so into that stuff.
My favorite memory was when we were out on our back deck for the perseids, I think. Anyway, a guy who lived two houses down behind us walked out onto his back porch, turned on the porch light and then proceeded to look up to see the meteor shower. We had a hard time repressing our giggles. How confused can you get? We were waiting for him to bust out a flashlight and shine it in the sky "to see better."
Anyway, if any of you were brave enough to face the early hours I hope you enjoyed the show.
