I've seen this quote a few times recently in a couple of the communities I'm in. It really gets to me, so I thought I'd share:

Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar.

have you checked into this? do you know this quote to be accurate? just curious, because people like to feed others a lot of horse shit, especially on the internet.

either way, like you, it gets to me too. i think it's true no matter who said it.

I verified it from several sources. I know not to take anything for face value.

[21] And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly: [22] Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Bush, or no? [23] But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me? [24] Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Bush's. [25] And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Bush the things which be Bush's, and unto God the things which be God's. [26] And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.

Luke 20:21-26

Dunno, just feeling silly.

Hmmmmm, it has come to my attention that I can't find a source prior to 9/11. A little fishy, so I'll say "attributed" only.
