I am sooooooo loving this trend of fantasy books to film. The latest? Susan Cooper's Dark is Rising series.

Squeeeeee!

The question (as the question is with all theses movies) is, can they do it right?

ETA Ummmm...I posted before actually viewing the trailer (I was so excited after seeing the poster in a theater. Post viewing, I thin kI can safely say the answer to the question above is no.

No. The trailer is dire, the story has been ruined, and I'm not going to see it because I love that series beyond reason and I'm just pissed off about it...

Sorry. Don't mean to squish the squee but... they have him bullied by his family! Who are American! Gah.

Yeah...truth be told, my hopes aren't that high based on the trailer (they were higher when all I'd seen was the poster at the theater). I'm just clinging to the hope that maybe the people who made the trailers just suck (though, yes, the American thing pisses me off).

I know I'm always a bit of a pessimist about these things, but...eeek. I've yet to hear anything that bodes well for this movie, and that trailer doesn't help. Regretfully, I shall probably pass on it.

PS -- Ian McKellan always struck me as the perfect Merriman.
