The landlady...she is crazy. And it's not the taking over a month to accomplish about 8 hours of work on the apartment. Not the hinting that "gosh those shelves are nice...you got them cause a friend moved and didn't want them? well, you can always leave them here when you move out, if you want." Not the lecturing us on how best to clean the drain trap in the kitchen sink. Oh no. All of these are true mind you, but scarier still was the following exchange:

Crazy Landlady: Aren't you worried about having plants in your bedrooms?
Me: Ummm... why?
CL: Well I was always told that if you have plants in your bedroom and you sleep with the door closed they take in all the oxygen and the air goes bad.
Me: *Brain short circuits...reboots* Ummm...no, that's not really a problem.

I'm telling you, it's scary 'round here.

There was actually a long discussion on Yahoo about that because one of their article writers, a feng shui guy, suggested taking plants out of the bedroom.

I said then and I'll say again: sheesh.

Well I was always told that if you have plants in your bedroom and you sleep with the door closed they take in all the oxygen and the air goes bad.

Perhaps she suffered some sort of oxygen-deprivation, and the last thing she saw before passing out was a plant, which kind of stuck in her damaged mind as the culprit.

Kind of like when I was three and choked on a fishbone right after my fish fillet touched the apple sauce on my plate. For a few years afterwards, I thought the mixture of apple sauce and fish patties was toxic.

Hmmmm...seeing as I mentioned something about it being Cinco de Mayo and she had absolutely zero clus (and after I explained it actually said "Oh, we're supposed to keep track of those things, now?") methinks she wasn't coming it at it from a Feng Shui angle.

As for the Feng Shui...this is why I take it with a HUGE grain of salt. Things like orienting your bed to face the door etc. make sense to me psychologically (mainly cause I can't stand having my back to doors/rooms etc. even in restaurants), but things like not having plants in the bedroom or not storing shoes under the bed, etc...meh, whatever.
