Jul. 30th, 2006 11:26 amSaw Pirates last night...like lots of people I found that it wasn't as good as the first, though I did still enjoy it and am looking forward to the third.
My issues include:
There was a little too much of the slapstick kind of humor and not enough of the witty repartee kind. The first movie had both but in a better balance. As my friend pointed out, most of the sly witty lines were in reference to the first movie.
One of the things I enjoyed in the first one is how they avoided going for the obvious two guys - one girl - love triangle approach. Apparently the temptation was too much this time around.
About five minutes to the end I realized that what was really missing was the truly charismatic bad guy that Geoffrey Rush provided. About 4.5 minutes later I felt much better :oP

The friend I went with had already seen it. She said there was one line that the packed theater of people she'd first seen it with missed completely and she couldn't believe they'd put it in a Disney movie. Sadly, I made note of the line as seeming off, but didn't get the joke/make the connection as to why until she pointed out that yes, that's the line she was discussing. Anybody else catch the completely un-Disneyesque, "I bet this was just Johnny Depp improvising and they let it stand" joke?
