Had a mini-family reunion last week as my mom's sisters, a cousin and I all came out to visit. Twas fun. SC Aunt and Cousin I hadn't seen in around 15 years and AZ Aunt in almost 10.

Flew in Tuesday and hung out at the airport as we (my folks, who'd driven down to get us, and I) waited for the others. Drove back "home," and then out to dinner with all plus [livejournal.com profile] schwa242. Was going to try to spend time with friends after dinner, but I"d barely slept the night before and had had a 6 AM flight so I'd basically hit the wall and was ready to collapse so I called that off.

Wednesday we (the girls...no dad) drove up to the mountains. Did a ton of shopping. Was thrilled that an old rock shop I frequented as a kid was still there. Sadly, the owner died in 2001, but a close friend with the same encyclopedic knowledge had bought the place and, though it was a bit spiffier and cleaner, it still had the same character. Bought a junk of slag glass that I've put candles behind...looks real pretty when they're lit. Rumor has it that SC Aunt was a little jealous of how well AZ Aunt and I clicked. It's always been that way, we just have the same taste in a lot of things, both like making jewelry, shop similarly, etc. My mom (accurately) told her not to worry, cause once the craft stuff came out later in the week I was all about SC Aunt.

We then went to our cabin for the night. Played Apples to Apples which is just loads of fun in a group setting. In the morning, SC Aunt and Cousin and I went horseback riding. We then grabbed my mom and AZ Aunt, checked out of the cabins, did a bit more shopping (including at the kick ass stuffed animal store shaped like an ark...love it!), and then drove down the mountain.

That night was dinner with the whole crew plus [livejournal.com profile] schwa242 and [livejournal.com profile] mezdeathhead. Yummy, yummy corn on the cob...grilled chicken, salmon and divine scallops in garlic. So good! Then several rounds of Apples to Apples--I'm telling you...it's a fun game.

Friday was craft shopping: Hobby Lobby, two bead stores, etc. and then that evening my mom's craft group came over. SC Aunt taught stamping candles, AZ Aunt taught a fun dice game, and I taught wire crochet so everybody was having fun.

Saturday I had brunch with friends and caught up on all the gossip (including the ex-boyfriend engaged to the ex-roommate of my best friend...too funny. Especially as he's Iranian and she's Irish and the families are having it out over the presence/absence of alcohol at the reception. I can just picture his mother...).

In the afternoon, the family stayed in and did all sorts of craft stuff. SC Aunt taught the family the candle stuff plus some other fun stamp techniques (she sells rubber stamp stuff and teaches classes...lets her make spending money and have time to home school SC Cousin), plus how to make neat jewelry with stamps and microscope slides. I taught knotting (like with a knotted pearl necklace) and how to make wire-wrapped rings. Basically we just played all day. Also watched some movies with Dad. Dinner was more yummy, yummy corn on the cob (I really need to start buying and making it here) and river trout. Then we taught Dad the dice game.

Sunday was plane time. Dad was leaving on a business trip so we drove down together. Got some more time in with him...feel bad that there wasn't more this visit what with him not joining us in the mountains and then having a class all day Friday, but as he pointed out, he's seen me twice this year when he was in town for business trips so it was Mom's turn.

Anyway, that was my trip. Came home with a suitcase stuffed to the gills with a) what I bought b) new craft supplies from SC Aunt, c) shoes that Mom was giving away and d) clothes that no longer fit SC Aunt. I told my Mom that with b, c, and d I probably made up the cost of the plane ticket. But even without that...phenomenal trip and I really wish I saw my extended family more often, they're great people.

I hope you have some pictures that can show to everyone who reads your blog to understand what kinds of things you bought and got from your aunt and mom. Particularly in a family reunion like this, photography is a very useful tool to mark down the history of the change of a person and the growth of a family. Especially you have not seen your aunts for a decade, pictures help to leave good memories about the reunion.

=)
