taerowyn: (Serenity)

Went and saw Serenity...again. Dragged both my roommates...again. This time I also brought four other friends as well. Three of them loved it, the other said it was "meh," but then admitted to not really liking the Star Wars--even the first ones--so his opinion is kind of suspect.

I noticed a few more things this time around

I'd noticed what River said when she's looking at the Reaver shot in the hold of Serenity, but I didn't catch the signifigance til this viewing: "He iddn't lie down. They never lie down."

Another River moment, which I'm not sure if I've ever actually caught what she said, but it's when Simon is treating her after she's been triggered and her crazy ramblings include "Showing me like a prize dog. Men covered in blood. They never touched it, but they're drowning in it."

Inara's weapon/attire in the final stand-off. When did companion suddenly equate with amazon-princess complete with bow and arrow? Not sure how I feel about that one...

Did like the Inara-Mal moment right before he leaves the crew to take the lift to Mr. Universe (still hate that name). As he walks past her he just gives her such a look. It happens so fast that if you blink it's over, but it really stuck with me this time.

So even after three viewings, I think it works and works well. Even knowng everything that was going to happen, (or perhaps because of it?) I was still on edge during the climax.

It was interesting to see it in a non-fan audience. I was as aware of the them as I was the movie itself. They seemed to engage. All the comedic lines (and there are so many good ones) got lots of laughs and there was even a smattering of applause at the end...though that could have come from some diehard fans.

Is it bad that I want to see it again?

As e quick note, Inara is Buddhist. One of the Weapons that martial arts monks are trained in is the bow and arrow. You will also note that her bow and arrow are rocket powered. That's pretty badass.

I'm still sad though. I mean, why? Why did they die? So many plot lines that could have been used and now, they're gone.

I cried the first time. I've seen it twice now. I will see it more. at least another 2 times next weekend.
