May. 23rd, 2005 10:02 amWell, I'm officially graduated. You know, five months after I stopped going to class. The ceremony was...well, a graduation ceremony. The reading of a bunch of names of a bunch of people I never met. Did get to sit between two firends so we chatted and mocked appropriately. Did get my check which was nice. Considering my current finances and inability to find a job it was especially welcome.
Really, the whole point of me attending graduation was an excuse to get my folks out here, which has been loads of fun. We've been doing a lot less touristy running around and more time just hanging out. Thursday was basically just dinner and the aforementioned hanging out.
Friday we wandered aroud Harvard Square, found a really cool craft gallery that I'd never seen and will have to re-visit once I have a salary. Then back to the apartment to hang out, out to dinner and that was it.
Saturday, Dad needed to get a dress shirt for Sunday's ceremony so we went to a mall. Then I took them to the evil arts and crafts store that entices you to spend way to much money, followed by lunch from Schwarma King. Yummy, yummy, lebanese food. Back to the apartment and, you guessed it, we hung out...with some time out where my dad was super-dad and helped out with a few home repair issues in the apartment.
Yesterday was graduation and then dinner with my folks, some undergrad friends and some SciJo friends. It was a blast. It's always fun to see the different areas of your life mix and mix well. So much laughter and chatter at the table. Had me grinning all night, even after everybody went their separate ways.
Got some fairly appropriate gifts... a pretty stationery set (love Cranes!), with a wax seal set (I've always wanted to try those) and a book of quotes from my undergrad friends and then a real fountain pen from my folks (also always wanted one of those). You'd think people think I'm a writer or something.
Hmmm...have some thoughts on writing I want to get to, but it'll have to be later. In case you weren't paying attention, my parents are in town and I'm off for more...yep...hanging out.
