Gush. Gush. Gush. Squeal. Squeal. Squeal.
They killed Wash.
Wash.
Killed him.
As in completely dead.
Dead Wash.
Yes, they killed Book too, but, much as I liked Book, I loved Wash. More accurately, I loved Wash and Zoe and Zoe and Wash.
And they killed him.
OK...enough of that...
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. A little exposition heavy in the beginning, but that's necessary to bring in the uninitiated. However, I'm not sure if it was enough to bring in the uninitiated. It was like watching Hitchhiker's... I couldn't tell how much of my enjoyment was because it was a good movie or because it was a movie about something I love.
River is...damn she's too amazing for words in this. Loved seeing her unleashed but the best was still the Simon/River interactions. Just some of the looks she would give him.
Mal's a little harsher than in the TV series. Boy Roommate and I were discussing it and I think that when you have these very complex characters that you've developed in several television episodes and myriad story arcs, sometimes you have to lose the subtlety and crank up certain character traits up a couple notches in order to get your point across in the shortened time frame. Irksome for a fan of the show, but not a total turn off.
Still has those brilliant, Joss moments of pure comedy that are as delightful as ever. Again, so much fun with River.
It's late and already blurring in my brain, but I did want to make note of the utter coolness factor of the fact that two (yes TWO) of the stars (Morena Baccarin and Sean Maher) showed up at the screening. They gave a little speech before the movie started and were signing autographs after. I was tempted to try, but the line was so huge and, hey, guess who has work tomorrow.
So, to wrap up...good movie, glad I saw it, can't wait to see it again come September and hopefully here ends the total fangirlness that has overtaken this journal of late...well, until September of course.

Date: 2005-05-07 07:25 pm (UTC)Book is going well and I don't know if you would even recognize the version of Journeys (now called The Long Walk) that currently exists.
Really hope to hear from you soon.
