May. 1st, 2005 09:03 amSaw Hitchhiker's last night. Very high on the goodness scale. I think I was grinning throughout. Loved the opening musical sequence and now have the song stuck in my head (So long, so long, so long, so long...). Loved depressed Alan Rickman. Got a Huge kick out of the appearance of the rock star from Love Actually (I'm too lazy to imdb right now).
This was my Harry Potter and I think they did just as well. Incredibly faithful to the book (I guess it helps having the author do the screenplay) and the biggest changes were those of omission, which is more a matter of time than purposeful creative choice.
Did have a brief moment of schadenfreude during the trailers. In some markets, the Serenity trailer is attached to HHG. Now I was excited at the possibility of seeing the trailer on the big screen, but was more interested in HHG (Plus, guess who has a ticket to the May 5, way in advanced screening that sold out in the ten cities it's in in under 8 hours...go on...guess).
Anyway, I'm walking into the theater behind a group of girls, and I'm wondering why one of them is in a sleeveless dress with no jacket as it was cold and rainy. Then I notice the sleeveless dress is red, and she has a lace vest and big black boots and I realize...Oh my god, she's dressed up as a Firefly character to see a trailer (see my icon...River, from Firefly, in said outfit). One of the girls she was with was dressed as another character.
The outfits were subtle in that, if you hadn't watched the show you wouldn't realize they were in costume. But still...costumes...for a trailer?!?! I am fully prepared for the costumes to come out on the May 5th screening and I'm sure they'll be there on opening night in September. I won't be in costume (again, I'm a geek, but not that big a geek), but I can see it for the big release and/or sneak preview. But, getting dressed up for a two minute trailer?!?!
So...the schadenfreude...guess which trailer didn't play before the movie? Ha! God, I'm evil.
