Adventures in Guilt
Jan. 16th, 2002 07:58 amI started at my current place of work as an executive assistant. As my brother puts it, I was Wayland Smithers (with the exception that I didn't and don't have a thing for my boss). Then, the manager of the customer service department got a new job elsewhere so I got promoted to that position. It's OK. I mean it's a job. I've always clarified between a job and a career. This is definitely NOT a career, not in my field of interest and not something I would want to do for too long. However, I like the people, it's not all that strenuous and hey, it pays.
Now here comes my dilemma. The company is in mild financial trouble. Should it decline into serious financial trouble about 7 of the 11 people here will have to go. However, as one of only two people whose job is a direct revenue making position, I would not be one of thos 7. So, if that happens, I, a person who has worked here all of 5 months, will keep my position while people who have been with the company for years will be out of work. It's not like any of them couldn't do what I'm doing with about a day's worth of training. And as an added guilt bonus, as I am a manger of a department (in fact the only "manager" in the company) my boss always talks to me about staffing situations, what is, what could be. I just need to learn to ignore the guilt I guess.
Excuse my random ramblings, I"m in a bit of a daze.
