I started at my current place of work as an executive assistant. As my brother puts it, I was Wayland Smithers (with the exception that I didn't and don't have a thing for my boss). Then, the manager of the customer service department got a new job elsewhere so I got promoted to that position. It's OK. I mean it's a job. I've always clarified between a job and a career. This is definitely NOT a career, not in my field of interest and not something I would want to do for too long. However, I like the people, it's not all that strenuous and hey, it pays.

Now here comes my dilemma. The company is in mild financial trouble. Should it decline into serious financial trouble about 7 of the 11 people here will have to go. However, as one of only two people whose job is a direct revenue making position, I would not be one of thos 7. So, if that happens, I, a person who has worked here all of 5 months, will keep my position while people who have been with the company for years will be out of work. It's not like any of them couldn't do what I'm doing with about a day's worth of training. And as an added guilt bonus, as I am a manger of a department (in fact the only "manager" in the company) my boss always talks to me about staffing situations, what is, what could be. I just need to learn to ignore the guilt I guess.

Excuse my random ramblings, I"m in a bit of a daze.

Scapegoat

About 70-75% of the time I like my boss, but every once in awhile he seems to go out of his way to be a jackass. At the moment he seems hellbent on making everybody in the office uncomfortable and me the scapegoat (Goody!). There's the matter mentioned previously about the possibility of over 60% of the office getting let go, but not me because of the position I hold, despite the fact that I've only held it for 3 months.
Now, to add to the fun, he just told, my absolute favorite coworker that if things continue as they are, she is going to lose her job as they will have to offer the position to somebody else who is losing HER job but is well-qualified and has a longer standing with the company than my friend. He tells her this then leaves for lunch. THEN he calls me and tells me I can't leave until after she does "just to be safe." Which forced me to make the connection to the call he had me place this afternoon to a locksmith to have the lock on the door changed. So I am now, on several levels, the bad guy and the scapegoat. Gee, thanks so much oh boss o' mine. Cause everybody already liked me so much to begin with. Sigh.
