Here's a great recipe to flip out your parents...

First go see a show at Boston Common (doens't matter, what show, though in this case it was Shakespeare in the Park - Much Ado About Nothing)

When the show gets out, decide not to mess with the crowd of people surging towards the T and instead hang out for awhile.

While you wait, call your folks just to chat.

Tell them where you are... the Common at 10 at night.

Have your cell phone cut out all of a sudden.


That works quite nicely on it's own of course... but there's ways to get better. Instead of hanging out at the Common decide to walk a few stations up while still talking to the parents.

If you happen to be doing this when a huge convention is in town drawing all sorts of scrutiny to the matters of terrorism and security... bonus. Especially if that convention involves fireworks that you can hear but not see.

Right when your father asks, "are you sure that's fireworks," it's always comforting to have a police car go by, sirens wailing.

What can I say? It's fun to mess with my parents' heads. They weren't as entertained as I was, of course, but they have those paranoid tendencies, I just feel I should exercise them every once in awhile. Yes, I am a sadistic daughter, but it's not like I knew the phone cutting out, fireworks and police car were gonna happen.
