Spider-Man 2

taerowynI won tickets to see an advanced screening of Spiderman 2 yesterday. I never win things. To complete the oddness, it was hosted by the local channel that airs Ebert & Roeper so they were there and did a little Q&A before the movie. A little surreal. They were sitting there on their director's chair in front of a movie screen only they weren't behind my television screen.
Anyway, perhaps its because they were so enthusiastic about the movie ("best comic book movie ever") but I wasn't all that impressed. Yes, the effects were fabulous and there was some great humor (including cameos by two of my favorite comedy-types). There was some great cinematography where it wass o easy to see the scene as a panel in a comic book... in a good way. But there were also scenes where the audience was laughing at the movie as opposed to with the movie. They just crossed the line in their attempt to tug on your heart strings and entered the land of true corniness and schmaltz. Still worth the price of the ticket when it comes out, I suppose, though I must add a neener, neener since I didn't have to pay and got to see it early.
