Yer not really listening to the Trans Siberian Orchestra, are you? I actually thought that they died, like five years ago. It was to my utmost horror to hear their rendition of (or slaughter of, depending on your taste) Silver Bells on the radio last week. How much do you think it would cost to have every member killed? Do you think if we chipped in a few extra bucks, the assassins could bump off Mannheim Steamroller at the same time? Christmas songs are nice. Do we really need to hear them with 80's hair-band, guitar solos, or Atari-style beeps and boops?

This, though, is cool:
"...you gotta be a rock'n'roll Jesus with a Cowboy Mouth."
--Patti Smith

Merry Christmas.

Yes, I was. I was going to say "I shamefully admit," but hell, it's music, I happen to like it what's to be ashamed of? I'm sure there's stuff you listen to that I think is crap so oh well. I also enjoy Manheim Steamroller so :-P I think I got my Dad's "eclectic taste in music" gene. I mean the man owns Eminem!!

Just because you like something doesn't mean it isn't something to be ashamed of. =P Kenny G or Michael Bolton are the two examples that come most immediately to mind. Another? My mother, the English major, with a big specialization in classical fiction and a deep understanding of what makes up quality writing, is a fan of cheesy mystery novels and Regency Romances. The simple act of liking something does not bestow dignity upon it.

And you are right, I do probably have stuff you would think is crap. I happen to really dig some of the following poop-shovelers: Garth Brooks, Jewel, Meatloaf (I would do anything for love!)and even Aqua (!). And I also liked Mannheim Steamroller and the Trans Siberian Orchestra when I was in my high-school days (I know, I know, nobody's perfect). So my conscience can't remain pristine-white, either.

I can't really imagine my father getting down to Eminem. It is a comical image, though.

No, no, I think the word you meant to use is frightening in a ... no you're right comical does work better.

To stand up for myself, I do NOT like either Michael Bolton or Kenny G. Yanni, is also not on my list of ecclectic tastes. And for the record, I think a penchant for Regency Romances ranks far higher on the "you should be ashamed of yourself" scale than listening to Trans-Siberian or Manheim.

I also happen to really enjoy the Trans Siberian Orchestra and Mannheim Steamroller although I like Trans Siberian Orchestra much better than Mannheim. I may not be a good one to stand up for musical tastes though when many have dubbed my musical collection extremely odd.
